Our Mission:

  • Shed light on lesser known indie bands

  • Broaden the scope of traditional “music reviews”

  • Create an inclusive & supportive environment where passionate writers can showcase their pieces

OutsideIndie was originally created in April 2019 when lockdown was in full swing.

It's no surprise that the social isolation of the pandemic has taken an immense toll on people's mental health. Being stuck at home can make you feel anxious, afraid, lonely, or bored, depending on the day. We all wanted to do something to keep our minds active and help us pass the time. Writing, per usual, provides a good outlet to accomplish these goals.

In many of our articles, we often use music as a point of departure for a wider meditation on a subject. That is to say, our pieces are often double portraits; you not only have the opportunity to review a band or a song, but also bring in your personal experience and discuss what the music means to you.

We especially encourage those interested in the intersection of music, creative writing, and journalism to join our team. Thank you for your support!
