Rockie Robbins' "You and Me" — The best love song you’ve never heard of
Back in 2017, a video made the rounds on Facebook of some Chicago steppers dancing spontaneously to Rockie Robbins' "You and Me". After finding it on Youtube, I read the comments section, which told a universal story: 1) half the group was listening for the first time because they saw this same video (me!), or 2) half the group had lost this song for decades, but were finally reunited with it at last due to this video.
It makes you reflect once again on the mystery of chance. How sometimes you just happen to be at the right place at the right time. It also makes me wonder how much damn good old music is still out there, buried in someone's record collection and forgotten because no one can remember the lyrics (thank gosh we live in the 21st century where finding music is a bit easier nowadays).
Unfortunately, this particular song isn't available on Apple Music or Spotify (last time I checked), only on Youtube. So here I am doing for my readers what these old people in this video did for me: introduce you to one of the best, most UNDERRATED love/soul songs of all time.
You and Me is a timeless love song. And it's a song deeply entrenched in the hearts and memories of so many:
"How could I forget such a moving, memorable, melodious song . I viewed a video on FB where an older woman shared a beautiful dance moment with family members to this incredible song that brought back glorious memories for me. Another glowing example of soulful good music that fills you up with joy"

"Our song since we met in 1980. In my dorm room Neely Hall at SIU. We were still cuddling and dancing to this 36 years later. Still not enough time. Dec 18 ,2017, I played this on my phone and held it to your ear at the hospital as we were told to say our goodbyes. O pray you heard it! This hurts so bad Eric, we miss you terribly. Thank you for all the beautiful memories my love and soul mate. My soul aches for you ... Forever you and me."

"I was a young female soldier at Ft Jackson, SC the first time that I heard this song. Not on the radio, but serenaded by a young handsome male soldier from DC. that I had come to know for a few weeks. He was surprised that I had never heard this song before. Alot of time has passed. I have no idea where he is now. But I never forgot this song, him nor that experience."

"I remember this song from 1980.... I had a crush on a girl from Flag House projects in Baltimore when this song was out. We used to ride the bus home from middle school. Tall n' Lovely Wendy, where are you these days? :-)"

"I was around 10 when this song came out & I loved it!! I have been looking for this forever & finally found it tonight. I love this song more than ever now than I did back then & just burst into tears of joy when I heard it again for the 1st time in almost 30 years."

"I remember this jam, my dad would have a gathering every weekend and all you heard was dominoes slapping and lots of laughter, never no drama, those were the days, miss those days.."

"Oh my goodness I was listening to IHeart radio I believe and this song came on and I almost had a FIT lolllll. I hadn't heard this song is sooooo long and it still touches me the same. Music makes my heart dance and it's a source of healing for me. They don't make good music like this anymore which is the reason why I have downloaded all the old school music that I love and listen to it constantly lol and this song will be in heavy rotation. It just makes you smile."
